The Tradition continues...

Mobile Telcos have been misleading consumers in Malaysia for as long as the first analob mobile phones came onto the market more than a decade ago.

Yes Network so called 4G service was launched amid great fanfare last Friday.(19 Nov 2010) I got excited at the thought of getting a mobile internet service that was high speed and with low latency, one that a trader should have.... But alas, the tradition continued... I agree with this reviewer.(Yes Ar? I don't think so la) Go ahead and read the very candid assestment of this 4G service.

I got some points to add:

1 4G is nothing new, in fact it is not any new form of technology but marketing hype. I can remember years ago Izzy.net touted their iburst broadband service as 4G and the product flunked out.

2 At RM30 or thereabouts per 1Gb)noting that Yes is a 'pay as you use') service another tradition continues of Malaysian telcos selling bandwidth data at exorbitant 'highest in the world' rates.

3 I was told by a marketing rep at the lot 10 Yes showcase event, that there is no monthly commitment or contract, but then now it comes to light there is RM30 minimum spend amountt. Hopefully RM30 can carry forward indefinitely if the service is not used for that month.(YTL please confirm this) If Yes made the minimum topup RM5 or RM10 or somewhere in between, then the service would take off I think. You need to get the users aboard and once they use the service and find good quality, the $ from extra topups will roll in... I just read this blogger's post, on the misleading and deceptive' advertising perpetrated by Yes, and yes the Yes 4G is no different to any other Malaysian Telco's prepaid services. And the Tradition continues...

4 The 4G phone will be 'available' next month, which begs the question of why have the launch when the product line up is not complete...

Then the traders will live happily after and say 'Yes'...... And the YTL Power price action will tell the story... The company spent RM2.5 billion on this 'breakthrough' 4G, my guess... dive dive dive!

20101122 The reviews on Yes network are coming in, love the power of the internet.

Isn't the internet the great consumer advocate. Check out another critique of the subject matter. Nowadays the internet is the great equalizer and when you come out with what you perceive as an outstanding revolutionary world changing product, you had better make sure it is one that is 'fit for purpose' and of 'merchantable quality'. Yes or No....?

Wow, here is a review that is positive... bear in mind this guy was at the launching.

It seems the bad reviews are from those free riders/hoggers/heavy downloaders of illegal stuff, who hog all the bandwidth of other telcos' broadband services.(the 10% of users who utilise 80% of the bandwidth) causing intermittent connection, and congestion in broadband networks eg streamyx and maxis. Traders might enjoy Yes, if the good reviews are to be believed, with 3-4 Mbps speeds, and because it is pay for what you use, those bandwidth downloader hoggers won't clog up this network.

20101124 One of the traders here signed up for Yes and got the Huffle device. I just tried it out ... On pinging the IB server in Hong Kong, the average response time was about 220 ms, compared to the office 5Mbps fixed sdsl line which gives average ping of 90ms. Speedtest on Yes connection shows 3.84 Mbps. This from the 8th floor of the office in CBD KL. Slight difference ie a bit slow on ping times, but since this network is 'pay as you use', those free riding downloaders won't clog up the network, it might be good for traders.

20101119 Trading is like being a predator. The leopard will wait patiently in the long grass for its prey, and pounce when the time is right. Jesse Livermore was down and almost out, and waited patiently for 6 weeks to trade a stock tat was breaking 100.... and he made his 'stake' thanks to the patience.

Eur futures 24 tick chart breaks out for the scalp. We stayed sidelined until about 10 mins ago, entering on break of 1.3660...

20101118 Is there a difference? Tick charts of FCPO futures, Euro futures and gbpusd (fx) for this afternoon. Basically these are casinos... Third month Feb FCPO traed 24K+ contracts today, which I think is a record for single month.... talk about gambling...

20101116 WD Gann words on market tops were uttered 50 years ago.... FKLI and FCPO futures 15 min chart, seems to be on downtrend now.... So much for 'shortages' 'floods' 'La Nina'..... Basically all news need to be 'in one ear out the other'.
