How many exchanges do you need?

Singapore have the Singapore Commodity Exchange, then some others started SMX (Singapore Mercantile Exchange), before that there was Joint Asian Derivatives Exchange (JADE, now defunct).

 

Earlier this week the PM announced that Malaysia would have a new venue to trade Gold futures on a mercantile exchange??? Must be something behind this reasoning to use up additional resources on a new exchange when Bursa Derivatives is currently operating.
